The True God!

When ancient Israelites adopted other gods, could they adopt El, or did the ancient Israelites think God already is El?

El was the supreme god of the ancient Canaanite religion; and should not be confused or misused as referring to El Shaddai, which means in English “Almighty God”!

In Exodus 6:1, Moses is told by God what He was about to do to Pharaoh, to force him to release the Jews.

God reminds Moses that He is JEHOVAH (mistranslated in English Bibles as “the Lord”)!

He also reminds Moses that He appeared to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as “El Shaddai”!

It needs to be remembered that God’s name is changed depending on His purpose and action!

It is notable that He reveals these slowly throughout the Bible!

ELOHIM: = “Creator, God the Son the living Word. (Jn.1:1; Col. 1:15–17; Rev.3:14).

JEHOVAH= “God in Covenant relationship to those He has created. (2 Cron.18:31)

JEHOVAH-JIREH =“Jehovah will see, or provide”. (Gen. 22:14).

JEHOVAH-ROPHEKA= “Jehovah that heals”. (Ex.15:26)

JEHOVAH- NISSI =” Jehovah my banner”. (Ex.17:15).

JEHOVAH-MeKADDISHKEM= “Jehovah that sanctifies”.  (Ex.31:13; Lev.20:8; 21:8; 22:32; Ezek.20:12).

JEHOVAH-SHALOM= “Jehovah sends peace”.  (Judg. 6:24).

JEHOVAH- ZeBAOTH= “Jehovah of hosts”.  (1Sam.1:3, and frequent).

JEHOVAH- ZIDKENU= “Jehovah our righteousness”.  (Jer.23:6; 33:16).

JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH= “Jehovah is there”.  (Ezek.48:35).

JEHOVAH- ELYON= “Jehovah most high”.  (Psm.7:17; 47:2; 97:9).

JEHOVAH-RoI= “Jehovah my shepherd”.  (Psm.23:1).

JAH is Jehovah in “become our Salvation”.  (Ex.15:2).

EL is Elohim in all His strength and power, (EL is God the Omnipotent.), as the Creator, putting His Omnipotence into operation! He knows, sees all. Orders all, Wills all, He is to be the object of worship of His people! In Whom all Divine attributes are concentrated!

Eloah is Elohim Who is to be worshipped. (Duet.32:15–17). This Title is used to differentiate between Idol and True worship (latent or expressed).

ELYON= “the most high God”.
