Question: What was the purpose of Jeremiah writing Lamentations?
The Book of “Lamentations”, is prophetic in the sense that it foretells the anguish of Israel and Zion, for the awful behaviour of Israel from the time of their ‘Vows’ to God in Deuteronomy 27, and summarised in Malachi!
They committed the final error (Sin), in their rejection of Christ Jesus Messiah, prior to their God imposed condition of “Lo- Ammi” (Not My people), at Acts 28:25–28; which was Almighty God’s greatest gift to them, which would have covered/remitted their sin completely; and allowed John the Baptist to become “as Elijah” (as Jesus repeatedly said, Matt. 17:11–13); and Jesus’ Reign on Earth would have begun!
However; the failure of Israel opened the way for the Gift of God’s Salvation to be presented to the Gentiles of the World (as prime objective of God/Jesus), and as shown by Paul in Acts 28:25–28, which has been under way since the Acts period, and will terminate in Romans 11:25–27!
At that time; Israel will be restored to “Ammi” (My people, Rom. 9:24–33)!
