Question: Why is Proverbs 1:7 important in the context of communication with God?
In sum, Proverbs 1:7 seeks to instil in us the indispensable virtues for becoming wise. We must tremble at the Lord's holiness, just as we are drawn to Him in love. We must warmly accept instruction. And we must always resist the pride that will take us off our path (GGL).
Some translations give the word “revere” instead of fear, which IMO can and is valid, in the context of the “hearts intent”!
The reason for the qualification on the definition of the word “fear”, is the general understanding of it worldwide!
Another reason for the word “fear” being most appropriate, is the fact of the “condition of the heart”; which is described in the Bible as “desperately wicked”!!
The KJV is: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” (Jer.17:9–10)
We know that the history of Israel in the Old Covenant (Testament), shows this tendency, all the way from Eden; and is lucidly expressed in Malachi, and elsewhere. But, Almighty Loving God, made provision for this Satan induced condition (fall), from the time of Eden; to be corrected by the Death and Resurrection of His Dear Son, Christ Jesus Messiah; in the full knowledge that His chosen people would again default; and, as is shown in Acts 28:25–28, they would become “Lo-Ammi” (not My people) as per the prophecy of Isa. 6:9–10!
The focus of the “Ages” has been/is on the “WILL” of all humans! Many people will object to this statement; but as has been shown in the special “chosen people” (who at present are “Lo-Ammi”); the same offer has now been made to all the people of the world, which will terminate when the “Gentile numbers are made up” (KJV Romans 11: 25–27); which will certainly coincide with Zech.12:10, which will be the “saving of Israel”; “For My Names Sake”, by Almighty God!
The “Rules” of engagement between Almighty God and Satan; focus and hinge on the free-wills of people; and the outcome is assured, as is seen in the Revelation Joy, when Satan is bound for 1000 years of the Reign of Christ Jesus in Jerusalem!
At the present moment in time, your question is pertinent; as you are one of the many who wish to “Worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth”; and the Father seeks such to do so (John. 4:23)!
