Turn the other cheek

Question:  What is the difference between Matthew 5:39 and Luke 6:29

This is a most interesting example of the apparent contradiction of some of Jesus’ sayings!

This particular one has been used worldwide to vilify the Lord’s Words!

Many will remember Nikita Khrushchev doing that, before a speech in New York about 60 years ago.

IMO; the answer is based on the knowledge of the “Age changes” which are given in Scripture; when a person is aware of their importance to understanding the Bible; and which are summarised in the Ref. in 2Tim. 2:15.

It must be remembered that Jesus only ever confirmed the “Law of Moses”, and His main target at that stage was the “lost sheep of the house of Israel”, Matt. 15:24!

As Jesus’s Mission got closer to the “Cross”, He made comments that referred to the next “Age Time”; which if the Jews had accepted Him as Messiah, would have been as soon as the Acts period; but because of Acts 28:25–28, has been delayed until the “Age of the Gentiles is completed, and their number is made up” (Romans 11:25–27) (Zech. 12:10)!

The comment by Jesus is valid to the “Kingdom of God on Earth”, the Millennial; when “Satan is bound” Rev. 20; and Jesus and Almighty God are Reigning from Jerusalem for 1000 years; prior to the final battle with the newly released Satan!
