The Original Passover and The Covenants

THE original Passover was the “angel of death” passing over the households of Egypt; and those that did not have “the blood of the Sacrificed lamb” on the doorposts, meant that the “firstborn” of the house died, as per. the warning to Pharaoh!  That meant that as the Jewish slaves had sacrificed the lamb, and sprinkled its blood over the doorposts, the “Passover” was their exclusive memorial feast thereafter!

When Jesus was speaking to His disciples regarding the bread and wine at the Last Supper (Matt. 26:17), it was pre-Acts 28:28, and they were still “Ammi” (My people), (AD 29 approx.) and His description of Himself in Matt. 26:26–28, as the Sacrificial Lamb of the “NEW COVENANT” gave continuation of the original “life giving cover" that God gave in Egypt, for those that would accept it.

This is only understood in the context of Jesus’ words in Matt. 15:24: “I am sent only to the lost sheep of Israel”, as God had for hundreds of years been striving with His people Israel to honour their Covenant with Him, shown, in Deuteronomy and elsewhere; and Jesus, as God’s Son was sent to them to attempt to ‘solidify’, the first “Passover”, and to secure the second Covenant; (“The New Covenant in My Word”) Matt. 26:26-28).  This is the meaning shown in the Parable of the “Vineyard Owner” (Matt. 21:33-46).  Even after they had crucified Jesus and He Arose to many witnesses, the Jews still remained “Stiff-necked and unrepentant”, and the “Message” of Christ Jesus was repeatedly laid before them; until Acts. 28:25-28 (Isa. 6:9-10) was pronounced by Paul, approx. 30 years later.

After Jesus’ death and Resurrection, the Apostle Paul (who had been persecuting the Christians), was dramatically converted by the Risen Jesus, to secure him for the work of spreading the Good News of Jesus’ Resurrection to firstly his own people the Jews, as he had a special knowledge of the Old Testament, and was well known for his zeal for the Truth of God, and his special head knowledge as a teacher; and had been a special student of Gamaliel!  That took place in approx. AD33.  When he had recovered his sight, and returned from Arabia, he and his fellow Christians worked together to convince the Jews of Jesus’ authenticity, and Paul worked particularly with the Synagogues and the Sanhedrin!  Paul’s final effort with the Jews was in Rome (Acts 28), which failed in approx. AD62, after Paul was moved to pronounce the prophecy of Isa. 6:9–10, shown in Acts 28:25–28, which put the Jews in a state of “Lo-Ammi” (not My people), and the Gentiles into the favoured position as first priority in God’s order of concern regarding His Salvation in Christ Jesus!

That condition still prevails, and will do until the time of Zech. 12:10 (Jesus’ Second. Advent), when the Jewish nation will “look on Him who they pierced”, and will mourn Him as an only son!  They will there- after return to “Ammi”, and become a “kingdom of priests unto God” (Exod. 19:6, Rev.1:6).

The “Good News” of the defeat of Death by Christ Jesus (the Second Adam) has been open to Gentiles since approx. AD62 and will remain open until just prior to the Second  Advent of Jesus Christ, and the “full number is made up” Rom.11:25–27!
