Question: What is the meaning of Matthew 12:43-45?:
The interpretation (as opposed to an explanation) is a warning to people who have been cleansed of evil spirits, that if they do not remain guarded, and should they leave themselves open; they are very likely to be repossessed and be in a worse state than previously!
However, as shown in V38, Jesus is talking in answer to the “Scribes and Pharisees”, who were/are notoriously against the teachings and words of Jesus!
Also listening were ordinary people, who at the time were more open to Jesus!
The lesson particularly refers to the end of Acts (28:25–28), when the Jews became “Lo-Ammi” (not My people; see Hosea 1&2), and the Holy Spirits’ actions with particularly Israel changed!
