Question: Is the Biblical 3.5 years, 42 months, and 1,260 days usually talking about prophetic days making them 1,260 years?
The statement by Gabriel to Daniel: “Seventy weeks (70 x 7 = 490 years) are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city”; are clear statements; and are clearly linked to the Jews and to Jerusalem! That they are years and not days is clearly confirmed in Dan. 7:25 & Rev. 11:2-3! These statements are also firm rebuttals to those people that teach that Israel has been cast away forever.
Dan. 9:25
“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times”. (7weeks + 62weeks = 69 weeks [69 x 7 = 483 years]). This clearly leaves a remainder of 7 years, yet to be!
The Bible shows the 7 weeks (49 years), to be the duration of the rebuilding of the Temple (454 BC to 405 BC).
The 62 weeks (434 years), begun in 405 BC and ending in 29 AD, giving a total of 483 years; at the death of Messiah! (Dan. 9:26: “And after three score and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for Himself:” (The Crucifixion)!
The 7 year remainder is emphasized above, because some recent teaching is that “more time is needed to accomplish the prophecies given”, especially in Chapter 11, up to v. 20.
So the clear conclusion is that there are 7 years yet to run to complete the 490. These are “prophetic years”, which means when the spiritual history of Israel is current! For example; above, when “Messiah is cut off”, the Divine clock re. Israel stopped. The 7 years yet to run will not start until God is dealing directly with them again, and the 7 years will be in two halves; 3.5 of peace, and 3.5 years of “Jacob’s trouble”, with Anti-Christ ruling!
