Rock of Ages!

Question:  What does Rock of Ages mean in the Bible?

There are a number of interesting references in the Bible, referring in extension Christ Jesus!

Throughout Scripture, rocks are commonly referred to as a symbol of God's reliability and strength.  The Bible advises that we build our houses and lives upon the stable rock that is God's love, wisdom and salvation.  Rocks are interlaced with the idea of refuge, a place to escape the tumultuous hardships of the Earth.

Not only is Jesus a Rock, but His Gospel also is likened to a rock, a sure foundation.  To Peter, who had obtained a testimony of Jesus by the revelation of the Holy Ghost, Jesus said, “Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church; and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matt. 16:18).

(Luke 8:13) Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the Word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root.  They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.

(Isa. 51:1)  “Listen to Me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn.

(1Cor.10:4), and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.  (Referring to Israel after the flight from Egypt).

(Psm. 62:2) Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

(Deut.32:4) He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just.  A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.

(Psm.95:1) Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our Salvation.

(Psm. 89:26) He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Saviour’.

(Exod. 17:6) I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink”.  So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

(Psm. 18:46) The LORD lives!  Praise be to my Rock!  Exalted be God my Saviour!

And many more references, will be uncovered by study of the Bible!
