Question: What does it mean when Paul speaks about the altar to the unknown God?
Comment; In Acts17:22–31, Paul refers to an ignorance of the divine that the Athenians themselves admit. He says, “As I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown God”.
Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus, and said, "You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things. For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD’.
So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship — and this is what I am going to proclaim to you”.
