Messianic Prophecy

Question:  Are Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6 Messianic prophecies?

According to the work of Dr. Ginsburg, and tabulated by Dr. Bullinger, Isaiah was “receiving the Word of The Lord”, in the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah.

That gives two fixed dates, and 46 years when undoubtedly “the Word of Jehovah came through Isaiah, and God spoke by him”.

In Jewish tradition, Isaiah was killed by Manasseh by sawing him in two.

If that is a fact, then Isaiah received God’s visions from approx. 649–584 B.C. = 60+ years.

If Isaiah was approx. the same age as Samuel, Jeremiah, and Daniel at the beginning of their ‘ministries’, (16–18 years), then one may conclude that the length of his life was approx. 81– 83 years.

It is concluded from the above that the whole length of Isaiah’s ‘visions’ is 61 years, (649–588 B.C.).

The two Messiah prophecies are therefore the authentic work of Isaiah; and are confirmed by Jesus in His references to the great prophet!

Isaiah probably contains the most important and far-reaching chapter in the entire Old Testament – Chapter 53.  This amazing Chapter alone is quoted from or alluded to some 85 times in the New Testament.  Jesus said that Isaiah saw His glory and spoke of Him (Jn. 12:41).

Much is made by Jewish opposition, that the prophecy in Isa. 7:14 does not state "a Virgin" (Heb. Bethulah), but damsel (Heb. Almah).  The KJV actually omits the definite article and states "a", but the corrected is "the", making the point of the special case, i.e. Mary of the Gospels, who is designated "parthenos"  (Virgin).

The actual translation should be (Heb. ha-almah), "The damsel who is a Virgin"; according to Dr. David Ginsburg, the famous Hebrew scholar of Massorah fame: Dr. David Ginsburg:  (Hebrew Scholar, Jewish academic, Jewish language Scholar for the British Library, and Museum)

The convenient confusion is used to support the case made by opponents of Holy Scripture, and to try to negate the Miraculous Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, The Saviour of the world's peoples, who trust Him, and believe Him!
