John, the Baptist, the "Forerunner"!

Question: Why does it say that Gabriel visited Zachariah before he met with Mary (in Luke)?

Google: In Luke 1:29 (NLT), it describes Mary as "confused and disturbed" in her response to Gabriel's greeting in verse 28, "Greetings, favoured woman!  The Lord is with you”.

God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth with a message for Mary, who was promised in marriage to Joseph.  The angel told Mary that she would have a son, whom she was to name Jesus.  The angel said, “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God”. Mary asked how this could be as she was a virgin.

The Angel visited Zacharias to announce the birth of a son to him and his wife, whose name would be John (the Baptist), who was to “go before Him (Jesus) in the spirit and power of Elijah” !

Because Zacharias didn't believe Gabriel, he was struck dumb until the birth of John!
