Israel's Nationhood

Question:  When did Israel become a Nation, and when was it split into two separate Kingdoms, Kingdom of Israel and Kingdom of Judah?  How long were both Kingdoms together before they were separated?

The best definition as to when Israel became a Nation is probably when Samuel anointed Saul as King, even though Almighty God was not in favour of them having a King.  God wanted to be their only and total Head, which would have shortened the time to their relationship with Him reaching the maturity which He desired!

As prophesied by Ahijah (1Kings 11:31-35), the house of Israel was divided into two Kingdoms.  This division, which took place approximately 975 B.C., after the death of Solomon and during the reign of his son, Rehoboam, came about as the people revolted against heavy taxes levied by Solomon and Rehoboam.
