Question:  Why were Hagar and Ishmael banished?

 

Google: In Genesis 16, Hagar is introduced as an Egyptian slave woman who belongs to Abram's wife Sarai, and she became jealous and worried that Ishmael would claim Isaac's inheritance.  And so she asked Abraham to banish Hagar and Ishmael.

Hagar is a biblical character in the book of Genesis.  She has an important role as wife of Abram/Abraham and mother of Ishmael.  As such, she is an important figure within Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

According to the most well-known of these traditions, after Ishmael and Hagar were banished, they settled in Mecca, near which they had found relief and water at the Well of Zamzam.

Muhammad is considered to be one of the many descendants of Ishmael.  The oldest extant biography of Muhammad, compiled by Ibn Ishaq, and edited by Ibn Hisham, opens: The Qur'an, however, does not have any genealogies.  It was well-known among the Arabs that Quraysh were the descendants of Ishmael.
