Elijah, First and Second Advent!

Question:  Who was more important, Elijah or Elisha?  Why were they so different, with Elijah living a long life but with little fame while Elisha had a short life but was famous for miracles and Prophecies?

Google; Who is Elijah and why is he so important?

Elijah was a mighty prophet during a turbulent time in Israel's history.  The nation had turned away from the Lord to worship Baal, and King Ahab had formed an alliance with Sidon by marrying their princess, Jezebel.  Elijah was sent to show Israel the evil of their ways and encourage them to return to the Lord.

Who was the greater prophet Elijah or Elisha?

They are called miracle-working prophets of whom Elijah is considered the first, but actually Elisha has more miracles recorded than Elijah.  They ministered at a time when Israel was slipping rapidly into apostasy.

What Jesus says about Elijah?

Later, however, Jesus said of John the Baptist: “He is Elijah who is to come” (Matt 11:14).  This seeming contradiction naturally puzzles Bible believers and gives Bible critics an opening to attack the Scriptures.

That is because they misquote, and did not understand, that Jesus at that time was “sent only to Israel” (Matt.15:24) and He spoke in the context that Israel needed to believe in Him; and in that event, John would “become as Elijah” (Matt.11:14)!

As they did not accept Jesus (Acts 28:25–28); they now await Elijah as one of the “2 witnesses” (Rev. 11)!
