Abram and Jacob's Names!

Question: Why was Abraham’s name changed and never used again, but Jacob’s name still followed him?

Abram means exalted father.  Abraham means father of a multitude.  God changed his name after the birth of his “promised” son in his old age.

Jacob’s name was changed in prophetic form, after he “wrestled with the angel/God all night” and he was told that “because you have successfully wrestled with God, your name will be changed to Israel”, Gen. 32: 24-32.  Because Jacob’s descendants have not yet successfully struggled against Satan, they must await the second Advent of Jesus, whom they rejected finally at Acts 28:25-28.  They will accept His great Love and Grace for them when Zech. 12:10 is reached in the future and the “remnant of them” is saved from the Earth!  The “remnant” will be refined for service to God/Christ on Earth, (Zech. 13) and will then be the “prophetic Israel”; and from them will result “ideal Israel”, (Jeshurun).
